The STIHL MS 881 Chainsaw is the most powerful production chainsaw in the world, designed for professional foresters, loggers and operators working in extreme conditions. With the highest displacement available in a production chainsaw and an engine output of 6.4 kW, the MS 881 sets the benchmark for high-output large-timber cutting.

A direct successor to the MS 880, this chainsaw was developed for felling large trees and the most demanding forestry operations where output, durability and reliability under adverse conditions are non-negotiable. It can also be mounted on a saw frame, extending its applications to production environments.

The low-emission engine meets EU5 regulations and delivers high power with efficient fuel management. The STIHL Ematic system — comprising an Ematic or Ematic S guide bar, an Oilomatic saw chain and a controlled-delivery oil pump — ensures chain oil reaches exactly where it is needed, enabling oil consumption savings of up to 50%.

The HD2 filter shields the engine from even the finest dust particles, with pores up to 70% finer than fleece and polyamide filters, significantly extending service life. The filter is easy to clean and the cartridge can be replaced without tools. The carburettor compensator automatically adjusts engine performance as the air filter gradually becomes contaminated, eliminating unnecessary maintenance stops during work.

Side-mounted chain tensioning allows fast and secure re-tensioning without additional tools, while the captive nut on the sprocket cover prevents accidental loss of components in the field. Fuel and oil tank caps open and close without tools, thanks to a bayonet closure system.

The STIHL anti-vibration system with buffer and spring elements reduces the transmission of vibrations to the handles, making extended operation considerably less fatiguing. The manual decompression valve simplifies starting by releasing part of the compressed mixture before ignition, protecting the starting system and reducing the effort required on the starter cord. Carburettor preheating ensures reliable operation in cold weather conditions.
